Ever wonder why your host coaching for your parties isn’t working? I bet your hosts could tell you! Warning: I’ve got some truth bombs coming for ya!
If the majority of your parties are failing, it is your fault, not your host. I know that’s hard to hear, but if almost every party isn’t working, something’s broken, and we have to figure out how to fix it.
Here are 6 things your host isn’t telling you about your host coaching and how to fix them. Take time to be a little introspective and consider how you can change what you’re doing to get better results. I promise. The work is worth the payoff.

#1 – Your Host is Confused
Confused people don’t convert. If your hosts are confused, they will simply shut down because they don’t know what to do. Check your host coaching messages for clarity. Are your instructions clear? Do they make sense to someone outside your business who doesn’t know all the lingo?
One of the mistakes I see a lot of direct sellers make is piecing together their host coaching system from lots of other people. Combining multiple processes into one can be messy and confusing.
So if you’ve created a Frankenstin type host coaching system or you haven’t actually looked at your host coaching scripts in a long time, take some time to walk through it and ask yourself if it’s clear, concise, and easy to follow.
#2 – Your Host is Overwhelmed
Think about what happens when you’re overwhelmed. If it’s a busy season of life and you have a lot of stuff going on, don’t you just want to binge-watch Netflix, eat some popcorn and chocolate, and drink a glass of wine?
If your hosts are overwhelmed with too much information, they’re also going to revert back to binge-watching Netflix instead of doing the things they need to do to have a successful party.
Let’s be real for one second – hosting a party is not that hard. But I’ve seen so many direct sellers overcomplicate the process with too many and too much instruction, and the host ends up not doing any of it. Think about the key things they need to know and do and explain them simply and clearly. bottom line – keep it simple and don’t give too much information that just isn’t necessary.
#3 – They Don’t Want to Spam Their Friends
I’ll keep this one short. Can we just pinky promise that we’re going to work to overcome the common stigma that direct sellers are spammy and pushy? If you have spammy or disingenuous tactics in your host coaching, your hosts won’t do it. They want to keep their friends after their party, just like you do! Don’t ask them to do something you wouldn’t do or wouldn’t want to be done to you.
#4 – They Want to Feel Valued
Don’t allow your host to feel like they’re just a number or a cog in your business machine. Take the time to get to know your host and build a relationship, especially if you’re doing multiple parties a week.
By taking the time to build a strong relationship with your host, they will become the champions of your business. They will refer people to you and be repeat hosts. Make them feel valued and do something special for them by sending them a note or treat to say thank you. I mean, who doesn’t love happy mail?
#5 – They Have Questions but are Afraid to Ask
Can you be trusted? Do you answer questions thoroughly, give clear instructions, and are approachable? Your host will not be afraid to ask questions if they can trust that you’ll answer them, reassure them, and communicate clearly.
You need to expect to answer the same questions again and again. If multiple hosts ask you the same question, maybe your instructions aren’t as clear as you think. Evaluate and update them. And remember that over-communication is not a bad thing. It’s totally okay to share the important stuff in multiple ways and at multiple times. How many times do you have to explain something to your kiddos before it sticks?
#6 – They are Thinking About the Business
Hear me on this one. Your host has already thought about the business. Make sure you’re having conversations with them about joining your team. And yes, you’ll have to have multiple conversations and offer the opportunity multiple times. But don’t wait on them to bring it up. You need to be the one to open up the conversation and not wait for them to ask. Keep planting seeds about your business and encouraging them throughout the party. Hosts are your number one prospect for team building, so don’t miss it!
Take some time to evaluate your host coaching systems and scripts to ensure your instructions are clear, concise, and easy to follow. Remove any spammy tactics that would make your host uncomfortable. And set time aside each week to build relationships with your hosts so they feel like you’re approachable, and they actually feel valued. Oh and don’t forget to offer your business opportunity! Improving your host coaching is almost guaranteed to improve your overall party results. So go make it happen!
